Mimulus aurantiacus, the sticky monkey-flower or orange bush monkey-flower, is a flowering plant that grows in a subshrub form, native to southwestern North America from Oregon to California.It is a member of the lopseed family, Phrymaceae, or, alternately, the Scrophulariaceae. California buckwheat is a good source of nectar over many months in dryer areas. In 2014, we were successful, when President Obama designated the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. Ceanothus is a genus of about 50–60 species of shrubs or small trees in the family Rhamnaceae.     Artemisia californica, also known as California sagebrush, of the Asteraceae family, is a shrub that grows in coastal sage scrub, coastal strand, chaparral, and dry foothill communities, from sea level to 800 m (2600 ft.).     Heteromeles arbutifolia commonly known as toyon, is a common perennial shrub native to extreme southwest Oregon, California and Baja California. They have their own riding trail at the bottom of the levee, but hikers, bikers and riders all meet in the underpasses. Unlike the webbed feet of ducks, coots have broad, lobed scales on their lower legs and toes that fold back with each step in order to facilitate walking on dry land.

There was no place to exit the trail for quite a distance and this left me and other riders I saw quite vulnerable and uncomfortable. It is native to California and Baja California.

    Malosma laurina is a large, rounded evergreen shrub or small tree growing 10–15 feet tall. Even venomous serpents, including small rattlesnakes, are readily consumed. 6 miles round trip per trip since I do have friends to complete with, Nice route to log in miles, pretty flat with some mild inclines. Perfect for logging long miles, I usually start at the Santa Fe dam as the water, shade and bathrooms make it a perfect starting/end point! It is a member of several plant communities, including coastal sage scrub, chaparral, northern coastal scrub, foothill woodland, and yellow pine forest.

    The scenery is better than the lower trail.

    If you see a coyote, you can stop and watch, but do not approach it. Might want to take the underpasses at a slow bell and pick your line.

    Many small birds feed on its fruit, and several mammals eat its twigs and bark. Its a great place to get out of the rain nice wide porches on both sides wit benches.

    Eschscholzia californica, also known as the Californian poppy, golden poppy, California sunlight, or cup of gold, is a species of flowering plant in the family Papaveraceae, native to the United States and Mexico. Also I am on the trail almost every day and have found a few electronic items I like to return. The seeds are commonly used in Indian cuisine, for example in curry, where it is known as rai.

    If you are lucky enough to see a tarantula on the trail, you can take pictures because they move slowly, but humans shouldn’t touch or otherwise harass them.
